Léonie Martin - By dint of hope

"Poor Léonie", as she was called in her youth, third daughter of Saints Louis and Zélie Martin, had a difficult character and suffered from her school failures. Despite her attraction to religious life, she painfully came up against several fruitless attempts before finding, at the Visitation of Caen, the place where her vocation could fully blossom.

Father Olivier Ruffray retraces here the main stages of Léonie's life, from Alençon to Lisieux then to Caen, emphasizing the main turning points in her journey which led her to resolutely embrace the path of trust, following the example of his sister, Saint Thérèse.

Léonie, who became Sister Françoise-Thérèse in religion, is the spiritual figure of the poor and the little ones, of all those overwhelmed by the failures of life. In a disenchanted, jostled, heckled world, she invites us to the heart of the Gospel, encouraging us to abandon ourselves entirely in the arms of a Father full of tenderness.
