As part of the Teresian festivals 2024 and on the occasion of the feast of the “first stone” on September 30, the Sanctuary of Lisieux is organizing an unusual guided tour of the Basilica with a climb to the top of the dome! Discover the story of Saint Thérèse told through numerous architectural curiosities and go behind the scenes of an extraordinary construction, almost a century old, dedicated to the “greatest saint of modern times”.
After the laying of the first stone on September 30, 1929, the Basilica of Lisieux was blessed by Cardinal Pacelli, the future Pius XII, in 1937, then consecrated and opened to pilgrims in 1954.
Explore behind the scenes of the basilica, with a climb of the dome, to relive the big and small history: the genesis of a titanic project, the construction techniques and architectural curiosities, the symbolism of the mosaics, the site bombed during the 2nd World War and many other anecdotes that will pique your curiosity.
Experience more than 2 hours of unusual journey with a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside in the light of the sunset!
